Avatime Traditional Area Cries Out Over Persistent Power Outages Residents, Schools and Tourism Sector Hit Hard
The Avatime Traditional Area in the Ho West District has appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to urgently resolve months of persistent power outages that are disrupting economic, social and educational activities across the area.
In a petition addressed to the District Manager of ECG in Kpeve, Osie Adza Tekpor VII, Osie of the Avatime Traditional Area and President of the Traditional Council, described the situation as unbearable for residents.
According to the petition, the intermittent power supply has severely affected institutions, including a College of Education and two Senior High Schools in Avatime Amedzofe, Avatime Vane and Avatime Fume.
“Academic work and tourism activities have been disrupted,” the petition stated. “Students are unable to study effectively, while businesses that rely on electricity are struggling to operate.”
The Traditional Council also raised safety concerns in Avatime Gbadzeme, where low-tension cables from a utility pole under maintenance have reportedly been left lying across farmlands. With the rainy season in full swing, residents fear the exposed cables pose a serious risk to lives and property.
“Residents cannot even charge their mobile phones, making communication extremely difficult,” Osie Adza Tekpor said. “We are therefore appealing to ECG to take immediate action to make life bearable for the people.”
The Council has called on the ECG District Manager to visit the affected communities, assess the situation and undertake immediate repair works to restore a stable electricity supply.
Copies of the petition have also been forwarded to the ECG Regional Manager in Ho and Okusie Okoforbuor Agyemang VII, Divisional Chief of Avatime Gbadzeme.
Residents say they remain hopeful that ECG will respond promptly to restore reliable electricity and address the safety concerns facing the communities.
