Residents across the Ho West District are expressing frustration over months of erratic and persistent power outages, with no prior notice or explanation from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
What initially affected parts of the Avatime Traditional Area has now spread to most communities in the district, crippling economic, social and educational activities.
“Residents cannot even charge their mobile phones, making communication extremely difficult. We are appealing to ECG to take immediate action to make life bearable for the people,” Osie Adza Tekpor VII, Osie of the Avatime Traditional Area and President of the Traditional Council, had earlier stated in a petition to ECG. However, residents say the petition has not yielded any positive results.
The situation is taking a heavy toll on businesses. A resident from Kpedze lamented that his office has become idle because all the equipment he uses requires electricity.
“My office is now idle. All the equipment I work with needs electricity, so without power, I cannot do anything. It is affecting businesses greatly,” he said.
Residents across Ho West are now demanding that ECG not only restores stable power supply but also communicates promptly with customers whenever there will be interruptions.
They are calling on the ECG District Manager in Kpeve and the Regional Manager in Ho to urgently intervene and provide a clear explanation and a lasting solution to the crisis.
