The Executive Director for Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-GHANA), a Civil Society Organization, Mr. Richard Kasu has issued a stern warning to the leadership of ECOWAS over its decision to send Standby Forces to Niger Republic following the Coup D’ etat that took place on July 26, 2023.
In an interview with gosagh.com, Mr. Kasu lamented on how ECOWAS leaders always turn blind eyes and deaf ears to early warning signs of instability. He asserted that the ECOWAS does not care about the plight of citizens in the West African subregion but suddenly become vociferous when issues escalate.
Mr. Kasu said even though CFF-Ghana as an organization condemns the Coup D’etat in Niger, it however do not support the deployment of Standby Forces to the country as he fears the move may lead to mass atrocities, with the potential of escalating to other parts of Africa and the world at large.
The Executive Director of CFF-Ghana has therefore appealed to ECOWAS to employ diplomatic mediation processes that will bring the feuding parties to the negotiation table in order to restore peace and stability.
He further called on other CSOs in the subregion to add their voice to the growing call for ECOWAS to rescind its decision.
Mr. Kasu also appealed for humanitarian support for the people of Niger Republic.
