The mill and factory of HGL Limited, one of Ghana’s fastest-growing rice producers with headquarters in the Volta Region’s Adaklu area, have sustained significant damage as a result of a storm and whirlwind.
The storm struck the mill on February 25, 2023. It severely damaged the building housing the mill, toppled a combined harvester, tore off some of the company’s machinery, tore off its roofs, and destroyed some of the Gogo rice brand’s production equipment thereby bringing operations to a halt.
Since it began operating in 2020, HGL has grown its own crops and purchased rice from farmers and co-ops in the Volta Region to mill in its state-of-the-art factory.
The Member of Parliament for the Adaklu Constituency, Honorable Kwame Governs Agbodza, who toured the facility after the incident said he is devastated by the extent of damage caused. He however said, he is confident the damaged sections shall be built back better, bigger and stronger.
