The Community Focus Foundation-Ghana (CFF-Ghana), in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) recently hosted a pivotal dialogue aimed at diagnozing water and sanitation challenges in the Volta Region and how to find sustainable solutions in addressing same. The event, themed “Building Resilient Water and Sanitation Systems in the Volta Region: The Role of Relevant Stakeholders,” brought together key stakeholders to discuss pressing water and sanitation issues.
The event was graced by the presence of high-profile dignitaries, including the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; Ho Central MP, Hon. Edem Kpotosu; Ho West DCE, Hon. Francis Proffer Dussey; Kpando MCE, Hon. Killian Donkor, North Dayi DCE, Hon. Ernest Adevor, and Mamaga Nyarkua Tsimafonya I, Paramount Queen of the Sovie Traditional Area among other distinguished dignitaries.
In his remarks, the Volta Regional Minister emphasized the NDC government’s commitment to leaving behind sustainable water sources as a legacy project. He stressed the need to address water pollution and contamination, ensure equitable access to water resources, and promote local ownership of water initiatives. “If we don’t position ourselves strategically, when the last drop of water finishes, the last person dies,” he warned, highlighting the urgency of the issue.
The minister also directed that every municipal assembly construct a minimum of 10 boreholes from the common fund to improve access to clean water. Mr. Richard Kasu, Executive Director of CFF-Ghana, noted that the maiden dialogue is aimed at finding bold solutions to the region’s water and sanitation challenges in a sustainable way.
Mamaga Nyarkua Tsimafonya I, chairperson of the event, urged stakeholders to work together to build resilient water and sanitation systems. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, private sector partners, and local communities to ensure safe water and improved sanitation for all.
The Volta Water and Sanitation Dialogue provided a platform for stakeholders to share ideas, expertise, and best practices in addressing the region’s water and sanitation needs. It’s a step towards ensuring a sustainable future for the people of Volta Region.
