In a significant boost to the coconut industry, the Volta Coconut Farmers Association Ghana (COFAG-Volta) has received thousands of coconut seedlings from the government and the Coconut Federation. This initiative is part of President Mahama’s ambitious plan to distribute 3 million coconut seedlings nationwide, aiming to revitalize the coconut industry in Ghana and empower farmers.
Togbe Dunenyo I, Chairman of COFAG-Volta and Development Chief of Kpedze, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government and the Coconut Federation for their unwavering support. He acknowledged the historical significance of the Volta Region as a hub of Ghana’s coconut farming, noting its pivotal role in shaping the industry. With renewed passion and determination, Togbe Dunenyo I pledged that COFAG-Volta would work tirelessly to reclaim its position as a leader in coconut production within a few years.
The Chairman extended special appreciation to Mr. Boateng Kweku of the Coconut Federation and Dr. Afram Yayra for their invaluable support and encouragement, describing them as catalysts for change in the industry. He urged members of the association to ensure that the seedlings are planted and nurtured with care, rather than selling them to others. This, he emphasized, is crucial to achieving the association’s goal of rejuvenating coconut farming in the region and improving the livelihoods of its members.
