Avatime Traditional Council Pays Courtesy Call on Volta Regional Minister Ahead of Queen Mother’s Funeral

The Avatime Traditional Council has paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, to officially inform him of the passing and funeral arrangements of the late Queen Mother of Avatime, Mamaga Onetsitsie Osei Yawa VIII (Paulina Ama Abofua).

The delegation, led by Togbe Okusie Adzoa Bansah Dzapraku X, Chief of Dzogbefeme, called on the Minister in accordance with tradition and customary protocol to formally communicate the sad news and brief him on the planned funeral activities.

The funeral is scheduled to take place in Avatime Vane from Wednesday, 23rd September, to Monday, 28th September, 2026. The week-long observance will feature traditional rites, filing past, a funeral service, a thanksgiving service, and other customary ceremonies in honour of the late Queen Mother’s life and legacy.

Receiving the delegation, Hon. James Gunu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Avatime Traditional Council, the bereaved family, and the entire people of Avatime over the loss of their revered Queen Mother.

The Regional Minister paid tribute to the late Mamaga Onetsitsie Osei Yawa VIII, describing her as a distinguished traditional leader whose dedication to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Avatime Traditional Area and advancing the development of her people will be fondly remembered.

Hon. Gunu further assured the Traditional Council of the unwavering support and solidarity of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council throughout the mourning period and the upcoming funeral rites. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Queen Mother’s soul.

The visit forms part of the customary processes observed by traditional authorities in formally notifying key state officials of the passing of eminent traditional leaders and seeking their support ahead of funeral ceremonies.
