Captain Asiwome Dzakuma Pays Courtesy Visit To Volta Development Forum, Discusses Aviation Development Opportunities In The Volta Region
A high-level engagement aimed at advancing aviation development in the Volta Region was held recently, as Captain Asiwome Dzakuma, a First Officer on the Boeing 787 with United Airlines at Washington Dulles International Airport, together with Pilot Timothy Asamoah, paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director of the Volta Development Forum (VDF), Mr. Agboka.
The meeting centered on a forward-looking proposal to establish a flight training school in the Volta Region to equip young Ghanaians with skills in the aviation industry. Discussions also explored potential areas of partnership and collaboration between the delegation and the Volta Development Forum.
During the engagement, Captain Dzakuma underscored the importance of aviation infrastructure in driving regional development. He explained the distinction between an airport and an airstrip, emphasizing that the development of airstrips across districts would significantly enhance connectivity and unlock economic opportunities. He described the Ho Airport as a “gold mine” for the region, noting that its full potential remains largely untapped.
According to him, the expansion of aviation infrastructure, particularly through the establishment of airstrips, would open up key sectors such as tourism, precision agriculture, medical deliveries, light aircraft operations, and flight training. He expressed appreciation to VDF for the opportunity to engage and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing meaningfully to the development of the region.
In response, Mr. Agboka commended Captain Dzakuma as a proud son of the Volta Region whose efforts to give back are both timely and commendable. He assured the delegation of the full support of the Volta Development Forum and indicated that the people of the region would rally behind such a transformative initiative.
Mr. Agboka further revealed that a broader meeting would be convened with the full VDF executive body to deepen discussions and outline practical steps toward implementation.
The meeting marks a significant step toward building a robust aviation ecosystem in the Volta Region and reflects a shared vision of leveraging infrastructure and expertise to create opportunities for the youth and drive sustainable development in Ghana.
